FACILITIES

In 1892, under the auspices of the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishers (RNMDSF), Dr. Wilfred Grenfell visited Newfoundland and Labrador aboard the mission ship, the Albert. Convinced of the great need among the fishing and settler populations for better medical care, Grenfell embarked on an ambitious campaign to establish a comprehensive medical network which served both the requirements of a migratory fishery and a scattered settler population. The medical facilities included the acquisition of medical vessels, the construction of hospitals, and the establishment of nursing stations.

This is a sampling of facilities images from the Magic Lantern Slide Collection.
